About scholarships

The provision of government scholarships in the Slovak Republic is a long-term part of the development cooperation of the Slovak Republic. The Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic implements development cooperation through a program of government scholarships in accordance with the Medium-Term Development Cooperation Strategy of the Slovak Republic for 2025-2030 (UV SR No. 2/2025). Government scholarships are provided for all levels of higher education at public universities in the Slovak Republic. The conditions for awarding and providing government scholarships are regulated by Act no. 392/2015 Coll. on Development Cooperation and on Amendments to Certain Acts and Decree of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic no. 50/2016, which lays down the details of the provision of government scholarships.

Slovak government scholarships, under OECD-defined conditions for conducting official development assistance, include awarding the Slovak government scholarship to persons with Slovaks Living Abroad status. Award of such scholarships has become a part of state policy supporting Slovaks Living Abroad, which has developed gradually over time, with the adoption of Act No. 474/2006 Coll. on Slovaks Living Abroad and on amendment of certain acts and by the establishment of the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad.

Registration into the system
Check On the home page, click "Sign Up".
Check Fill out the registration form and submit it.
Check You will receive your login credentials via email.

Filling out the application form
Check Log in using the email address and password that were sent to you.
Check Follow the instructions in the online application.
Check Please fill in all required information truthfully and completely.

Submit an application
Check Please attach all required documents to your application.
Check If any required attachment is missing, the application will be rejected.
Check After reviewing all the information, submit the application.

To apply for the provision of Slovak governmental scholarship, you have to meet the conditions, which can be found on the website https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/wizard (only select your country). If you do not find your country there, this means you can not apply.

Applicants for bachelor's or master's degrees must be 18 years old by the 1st of September, otherwise, they will not be able to apply. The age limitation is set to be for bachelor's and master's degrees 18 to 26 years old by the 1st of September. And for PhD, applicants must be 23 to 35 years old by the 1st of September (if a student is by 1st of September 27 years or 17 years old, he/she cannot apply for bachelor's and master's degrees)

Those who meet the conditions and would like to apply must register from the website https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/registration
Please remember your email and password given in registration to be able to log in. After registration you will receive confirmation email with activation link (check also the spam folder). Click on the activation link first to activate your account then you will be able to log in from https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/
After log in you can fill the online application form and attach all required documents. You can find also manual in your account which might help you with filling the form.

No, the SAT is not required to apply for a Governmental Scholarship. Applicants are instead required to submit the documents listed here: https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en/required-documents
